Consistent growth

During the period between 2015 and 2020, An Giang Province focused on exceeding its growth targets as proposed under Resolution 8/15. The GRDP growth rate in the last five years is estimated at 5.25%, whereas during the period 2010 until 2015 the GRDP growth rate was at 5.07%. It is being seen that the standard lifestyles of the people in An Giang Province has seen vast improvements with the GRDP per capita reaching VND 46.8 mn in 2020. This has been an increase of VND 16 mn compared to 2015. The poverty rate also fell to 1.93% in 2020.

An Giang Province wants to improve and increase productivity, efficiency and competitiveness by restructuring agriculture and rural development, with an innovative growth model. The agricultural sector in the province already has a high growth rate and forms the core strength of the economy. The province now wants to take it many steps further by targeting brand marketing, improving on production and quality, and creating more value and competitiveness of all its agricultural goods. This would require restructuring at many levels by increasing rice acreage, and also increasing the breeding of more livestock, and growing fruits and vegetables by using latest high technology. Once the value-added chain is running efficiently the production too will improve and increase.

The province encourages large-scale production, calls for bigger investments in high-tech agriculture and specialized farming, and step by step focusing on enhancing the link between production, processing and consumption of agricultural produce. Simultaneously, An Giang Province is developing the trade, services and tourism sectors, which too contribute in large part to the economy, accounting for 49.09% of the growth in 2020, 5% higher than in 2015.

The export sector is also strong with a turnover from goods out of the province showing revenue of USD 4.181 bn, with products from An Giang Province now available in almost 105 countries.

An Giang Province has constantly been upgrading the curriculum in education and training programs, and offering quality education at all levels. The current rate of students passing the national high school graduation exam rank is among the top ten in the country and the first in the Mekong Delta Region for the last three consecutive years.

This credit would go to the standing committee members who have worked diligently as a team to bring about a high level of administration that is focused on building a clean and strong State that will fight corruption and wastefulness, and instead lay more importance to mobilizing jobs and building people confidence. The good work by the leadership in An Giang Province has drawn the attention of the Politburo, the Secretariat, the Government, ministries, central agencies and other provinces.

The Province is determined to build and maintain a clean, efficient, and effective State with a qualified, capable and a hard working administrative system. According to Mr. Nguyen Thanh Binh, in order to achieve these targets, the province will set about drastically upgrading and innovating its growth model for agriculture, focus on building agricultural brands, expand its consumer market base with quality produce, and create more value and competitiveness in agricultural goods. The province plans to shift from pure agricultural production to agricultural economic development, with the motto based on marketing agricultural activities to stabilize output of agricultural produce; use agricultural technology to increase productivity and quality; enhance specialized agricultural services to improve efficiency; and adapt methods of sustainable development in agriculture.

With a fertile landscape, An Giang Province is well endowed and aims to build brands for its main agricultural goods with focus on three group products of sticky rice, aquatic products and fruit trees.
